Currently the NGO is being facilitated the People of District Toba Tek Singh
which lies in Punjab-Pakistan. The District has its Boarders with Faisalabad,
Jhang, Sahiwal, Okara and Khanewal District. Almost it lies at mid point of
Punjab Province having enhanced population compared to the resources available
here. Comparatively peoples have low standard of living.
NGO Based District Population:
Population of District in which NGO is based is approximately consists on
1,600,000 to 1,800,000 humans and
320,000 to 350,000 houses built mostly pacca and cemented, some furnished and
some non-furnished.

There are multiple casts living in the area. Major casts are Arian about 35% of
total population, Jaat 20%, Rajput 12%, Gujar 10%, Coblers 10%, Malik 4%, Shah
2%, Weaver 2%, Qureshi 2%,Carpenter 1% and
others are 2%.
Family Size & Leading Families:
Family size is not equal, some families consist of 7 to 10 members but on the
other hand some families have 4 to 6 members. According to our estimate average
family size is of 06 members. Leading families belongs to Arian, Jaat, and
Rajput.
Professions:
Mainly the people are indulged in Agriculture which has ratio of 50%, daily
wages workers 20%, office staff/civil servant 15%, self business oriented 10%
and 5% have other sources of income.
Income:
Per capita income is very low (less then 1 dollar per head per day),
60% of the Population has less then 50 Rupees per day income, 30% have daily
income less then 20 Rupees. Average income of the said areas peoples is round
about 30 Rupees (half dollar) per head per
day, which should be enhanced to at least upto 60 Rupees (one dollar) per
head per day.
Crops and Land Ownership:
Major crop is the Wheat, Other crops are Maize, Cotton, Sugar cane and Rice etc.
Peasants have mostly ownership of land less than 10 acres. Average of the land
ownership is 03 to 04 acre per joint family having average size of 10 to 15
persons.
Facilities Available:
Basic facilities of electricity, telephone, metal road and transport are
available to the urban area peoples and almost half of rural areas peoples also
have above mentioned facilities. The facilities for purchase of basic needs like
milk, butter, desi ghee, sugar and limited toilet items are also easily
available here. If villagers required purchase of extra luxuries items, they
proceed to towns or their neighbouring big cities.
Education
School/Collages/Non Formal School:
In education sector we are facing both qualitative and quantitative problems.
Current situation of literacy is not satisfactory according to the view point of
our NGO. Formal Primary Schools from Classes 1st to 5th are available
in sufficient numbers. Middle and High Schools have distances from 10 to 15
kilometers from each other. Colleges are not fulfilling the requirements of the
people. Each existing college cover at least 40 Kilometer circle areas, which is
non accessible especially for the rural peoples. There is rarely concept of
proper Non Formal Basic Education s in the region. So there is a dire need of
more Colleges to provide them with higher education and Non Formal Education.
Ratio of Qualified Peoples:
There is low ratio of qualified peoples. If we analyze ratio of qualified
peoples out of the total population it is as about Bachelors & Master Degree
holders 2%, Intermediate 5%, Matric 10%,Middle 12%,
Primary 15 % illiterate peoples are almost 67% of the total population
residing here. We think there should be plenty of Non Formal Basic Education
school for no age limited male and female students. We are submitting a project
proposal to the Government of Pakistan in order to achieve above stated goal of
increase in literacy rate.
Projected Education Facilities:
We are the first Non Governmental Organization that has planned to setup this
type of non formal Basic Education School with no age limit for males and
females. Till today there is no similar facility of education is available in
the said area.
Health Facilities:
Four years ago there was no proper health facility in rural area, specially
mother & child health care centre or general hospital, but now we have
arranged and are executing Family Planning & Mother and Child Care centre
and General Hospital since last four years. These health units are being
supported by FPAP, TVO, NATPOW our NGO and Community to fight against diseases.
But their scope does not meet the health requirement of rural and urban area
community.
Culture:
Culture of living peoples is throughout very simple. Arrangement of marriage
does not take much investment and procedure is not complicated. Areas people
culture is matching to eastern living style. Shalwar & Qameez is favourite
dress of the area peoples. Although some peoples wear Chawdar Qameez and Pant
Shirts. However cultural values have an impressive image in society.
Moral Values:
Moral values have their dominant position in society. Islam is national religion
declared by the Government of Pakistan. Mostly Women covered their face with
veil and have respected position in society. Primary and Intermediate
institutions of Boys & Girls are working separately but Degree classed have
concept of co-education. Society do not allowed roaming of any women. Romance in
common is always discouraged. There is not common concept of love marriages but
mostly parents of boys & girls find match for their offspring.
Living Standard:
Living standard of the people is normal but comparatively low, Majority of the
families living in the houses consists of two rooms without Car, Motorcycle,
Telephone, Refrigerator, VCR, Dish Antenna, Air conditioner, Television and
Electric Water Pump. Drainage system, bazaars and streets condition is suitable.
Half of houses are cemented and furnished but almost half houses are still kucha,
composed on huts constructed with mud.
Languages/Mother Tongue:
Mother Tongue of the area people is “Punjabi” which is being speaking and
understanding 100%. Almost peoples know “Urdu” but despite of the fact that
it is a National language, its speaking trend has not been adopted by the
people. English is an International language which is understandable only by
highly qualified people living in Pakistan. Religious language is “Arabic”
which has its lot of use in religious education and religious conversation.
Sports:
Young men play Cricket, Hockey, Chess, kabaddi and Football. Now the Cricket is
reputed sports not only for urban peoples but it is also favourite among village
peoples. It has added its value among public and also penetrated in the minds of
sportsmen and spectators.
